Yeah! You! 02:00
There are things that are possible! And goals that are achievable! Plateaus that you’ll find reachable! But not always what you think. Desires you’ll see obtainable! Maybe not quite so logical! Outcomes can be acceptable! If you’re open to what can be. Remember all those plans you made when younger? You’d have books acclaimed and read and published internationally. So proud of your degrees. Like so many whom you esteem. Well the grad school boards had other plans. And you let your words lie in dust closets. Till you’d start writing other kinds of things. Tapped a deep side tied to childhood dreams. Found friends forged those words into sounds. Now you’re in bands playing town to town town. Please do not misunderstand me! My thesis is not destiny! While you can’t control everything! You are the ruler of your life. Earthquakes can topple all buildings! Just like your goals are fragile things! Stay open to all possibilities! The best could be a surprise. Remember how you saw your future back then. You’d move to tropical paradise and stroll upon the beach. Your hands would hold the hands. Of the girl of your sweet dreams. Well you cried through scenes of sad heart breaks. And no town you tried quite suited needs. Till you saw your home in all sand no beach. Among the cactus flowers and red rock scenes. You made best friends you could hope to find. In a world so strange you could say “this is mine.” There are things that are possible! And goals that are achievable! Plateaus that you’ll find reachable! Now here’s how I will conclude. Those things seemed unobtainable! The story’s not quite so over! Look at all that you’ve done so far! No reason to bury dreams. If you believe in yourself than… Yeah! You! Yeah! You! Yeah! You! Will succeed and be happy.

Rob’s email came Saint Louis: "Join pancake anniversary." Same day Nashville’s Mari: “Let’s write songs collaboratively.” Said: “Put avocado in. Make vegan I’m all over it.” This song came so easily. Did I steal accidentally? Aguacate del Mexico. Alligator pear’s what some know. There’s drought, we’ll keep avos round. Give up lawns, stop eating cows. Mash it down till it’s batter. Got some left on top, slather. More ingredients, don’t know. Love eating, cooking not good. But I’ve come such a far way. Face challenges every day. Learned basic music theory. Next thing could be culinary. Avocado pancakes!

Three in one house locked in battle with sleep. Two of them are men and one of them is me. Slapped awake at 7 again by alarm. Dad’s 88; random chance, classic rock. Relieved when Credence gets mid-song turnoff. I’m in room next to his, where my child self slept. My bed long gone, now it’s blow-up mattress. He doesn’t close doors anymore don’t know why. Naps half the day in a chair with one eye. Each time he sleeps wonder if again he’ll rise. Brother’s below part submerged ‘neath the earth. Often wakes half-night then sleep can’t return. Sometimes random or those nights when Dad calls: Drain’s clogged again, to the ER must go. When I’m far away, it’s his burden alone. Will the news be the shock of call over miles? Seems more likely than to time my arrive. Though I dread ceaseless sleep, I know it’s ideal compared to fatal fall or a final cough. My night’s not done; I drift off and wonder: Why though retired Dad still sets alarm?

A quick jaunt to the Port Authority. Ameripass, one bag's all that follows me. Atlanta's first after two nights half asleep. Week in Florida, this time the leaving is real. Hit Central Time Zone in panhandle, yeah! All miles, each inch to me is new from here! New Orleans, I want to eat you with my eyes. Alone, not ready, for now a quick good bye. Station, calling card, payphone news from Dad: Mom's got cancer but "nothing you can do." Houston feel swallowed, drowned, no where to stay! Half night to Dallas, next bus Austin way! Could you be the one? I feel so homey here. Strolling beneath oaks and music everywhere. San Antone just moments till my transfer. Overnight can't see so shock, not gradual. El Paso sunrise, this landscape's alien! Glued to windows while others oblivious! Tucson sleeps in heat, my eyes torn awake. To edge, walk in desert, sure that I'll be back. Phoenix hostel, they tell me downtown's not. Busing through dunes, how can I be ocean-bound. Down the mountain, well here's my Cali dream! Can anything live up to decades' expecting? A day to get through Montana, oh, big sky, why didn't I stop here? Hundreds of miles from anyone I know, it hits me: I've lost the mind I started with. This bus can't turn around, and neither can I. Thinking back to legendary cities. Diego, LA, June but where is the heat? Yet palms even grow in Frisco's eternal chill. Sacto, get hat stolen, guess I'll skip capital. Eugene's so green, I should feel most serene! Exhaustion warps me, think, "What am I doing here?" Moment passed, I'm good, not heard much about Portland. Like it but must keep rolling, new country: Vancouver on 4th, my own kind of freedom. Shame to end detained at the border for nothing. Seattle I imagine new life among your hills! After Tampa summers, maybe feeling's real. Fargo longest stop in days, mostly laundry. Minneapolis, warmest people yet to meet. Chicago, now this is what cities should be! But winters worse than youth are not my destiny. Final long haul to known stench: NYC. Back to Norwalk, figure out what's in front of me….!

about

This is not an album, but a place to gather all of the non-album Run-On Sunshine songs.

So far, these are all tracks that have appeared on compilations. Thank you to my wonderful friends who've asked me to appear with all the awesome artists on these compilations!

You can stream the compilation tracks, but they're not downloadable here. Each track includes a link where you can go to the compilation, then ideally download that comp to hear all the artists, or buy the physical copy when applicable.

Over time, I may add more tracks that don't fit with any of the albums. Stay tuned!
